Hey Grace,

You are not the only one with this question. So, I'll answer for you and then go on to give everyone other ideas...

For you (and an idea for others too) I'd say go to your 2 hour/day blocks where you are sitting with God (your business partner) and dedicate one of them to this exercise. This type of reflection will bring to mind what's important to remember. Or as a gardener you could view the year through metaphor and reflect on what got planted, what took root, what weeds got pulled, what's blooming, what's flourishing... and catalogue and celebrate accordingly! Or since you love (need!) to walk/hike you could get out in nature and metaphorically walk through your year that way.

The key is to do it YOUR way...authentically from your core.

When I sat down to do it myself, I found it to be much easier and fun to start with gratitude. What am I thankful for this year? How was I blessed? What miracles did I experience? I committed to writing no less than 100 things...so once I got going it was easy and it led naturally to progress and accomplishments. So, I knew what to go look up in my income statement, financial plan, strategic plan, calendar, notes, etc. It was so much easier to go back and quantify what I was thankful for....and so much easier to see the progress.

It can be hard to start with progress because we can so easily see what we didn't do or that we're not exactly where we want to be. Did I hit all of my goals this years? Nope! And I still made progress: sometimes a step sometimes a quantum leap. AND I made progress and took steps in arenas that were not on the original plan. These count! It's really important to shift your mindset to acknowledging progress...building on success is one key to victory!

You could pull out your calendar and walk through the year...allowing events and notes to spark memories. You could go through all of your coaching notes. Or peruse the books and magazines you read.

Another option is to give yourself permission to let go of 2011 and start fresh in 2012. Start today by keeping track of what you're grateful for today, miracles, breakthroughs, and what you got done. progress, results, support, resources, etc. Do a quick check in at the end of the day in a journal, on a blog, or vlog, on audio, in pictures, whatever. Make it custom to you, easy and fun! By the end of 2012 you will be amazed at the compounding effect - what you pay attention to grows!

Ginny,
I love where you are pointing us! Building on our successes. My question is, how do you remember everything? I haven't been tracking my breakthroughs and revelations as they happen. Do you have some ideas for how to pull these out of the deep caverns of my brain?

Thanks for the great tip on using "request" instead of "need". I definitely will be making that change!

Hi Ginny!

Thank you for giving me access to this before I am an official "client" of yours. Now I remember why when I first was told about your coaching style, I listened and inquired how to contact you and followed through over the course of 5 months! It was Sherry's explanation that you work on a spiritual level. I have paid thousands for coaching in the past through an organization called Sandler Trainng and I can't count on one hand the mention of spirituality or any reference to that even mentioned. I am very excited to delve into my CORE and discover the mind / body integration!

Thank you!
